Here’s my take on it. Arya’s entire story up until now has been driven by her list, a set of personal vendettas against those who have wronged her family and friends. In the Red Keep, Sandor told Arya to leave, and he pointed out that killing Cersei now was pointless and would get Arya killed. She took his advice, said to Death, “not today,” and in doing so she effectively discarded her list. But it wasn’t just a list; it was the one thing that has continued to tie her identity to Arya Stark and prevented her from truly becoming no one and being a Faceless Man. The whole sequence where Arya is trying to get out of the city and bearing direct witness to the results of Daenerys’s actions is meant to be horrifying to her, but not in a personal way. It’s not at all like the crimes of the people on her list.
